Security lights are available to all Polk-Burnett Electric Cooperative members, subject to the established rules and regulations of the Cooperative. Service is a dusk-to-dawn, automatically-controlled, LED light.
The kilowatt-hours used to operate a security light are not metered, but have a flat, monthly rate. This rate takes into consideration any possible downtime and is, therefore, not open to adjustment. Rates and minimum charges are in accordance with Polk-Burnett’s current rate schedule, which is subject to change - (Schedule S1- Security Light).
Lineworkers must handle power line maintenance and repairs first; should your security light not work, it will be repaired in as timely a manner as possible.
Polk-Burnett security lights are normally installed on existing poles where electric service is available (with the exception of transformer or other equipment poles). If a transformer is not installed near the light location one can be added, but charges for the light will then be under “Schedule A - Single-Phase Service.” If a new pole is needed, Polk-Burnett can install it for a fee of $450 plus $3/foot for the line extension from the Polk-Burnett source of power (as determined by Polk-Burnett) to the security light pole. Installations requiring extraordinary effort due to terrain, blacktop or other obstacles will be charged extra to cover that cost. Underground installations during winter conditions may result in additional installation fees.
The member is responsible for providing Polk-Burnett with the desired size, location, and direction of the security light; and, if necessary, pole location. If, after initial installation, a request is made to either upgrade or downgrade the light size or change the direction of the light on the pole, a $100 charge may apply. Any such requests must be received within 30 days from the date of installation or account change. If at anytime the security light pole is requested to be relocated, a fee of $450 plus $3 per foot for the line extension will apply.
In requesting a security light, a Polk-Burnett member agrees to pay for the service for a minimum of one year. Should the member choose to have the light removed within the first twelve months, one full year of service will be paid in order to help cover the installation, maintenance, and retirement costs incurred by Polk-Burnett. Repairs to the security light due to vandalism will be covered only on the first occurrence. Any vandalism after that will result in the light either being removed or the repairs will be charged at the current time and material rate.
Trench marking agreement: The below member requests that Polk-Burnett dig a trench on the member’s property located at the above location for installation of underground electrical wire to serve a Polk-Burnett security light. Prior to construction, Polk-Burnett will mark the proposed trench route with white flags and/or paint. Polk-Burnett will call Digger’s Hotline for marking of existing underground public utilities, including electric, telephone, natural gas, and cable TV. It is the member’s responsibility to physically mark the location of any and all other obstacles that lie underground within 10 feet on either side of the proposed trenching route. Such obstacles include, but are not limited to septic and sewer systems, buried wires for out-buildings or decorative lighting, and LP gas lines. The member shall mark the location of all obstacles with stakes or flags or by painting the ground. The member accepts responsibility for damage to any such underground obstacle that the member fails to mark.
Fees for a new light that requires a pole and line extension are due prior to installation of the light and will be calculated by a Polk-Burnett Representative.
