15 local nonprofits receive $15,000 from Polk-Burnett Operation Round Up

Polk-Burnett Electric Cooperative’s Operation Round Up program awarded $15,000 to 15 local nonprofits in October during Co-op Month. Fall grant recipients are:

1. Yellow Lake Food Distribution, $1,500, food for distribution in Webster area
2. Luck Community Education, $500, birth to 4K welcome program
3. Polk County Historical Society, $1,000, acid-free storage boxes and tissue paper 
4. Larson Torgerson Amery American Legion, $500, building repair, plumbing, paint, siding
5. STAR Education Foundation, $1,000, food backpack program for St. Croix Falls students
6. Amery Area Community Center, $1,000, handicap signage in parking lot and interior braille signage
7. Amery Area Food Pantry, $1,500, food and household items for distribution in Amery area
8. Friends of the St. Croix Wetland Management District, $500, pocket naturalist guides
9. Skonewood Christian Retreat, $1,000, fellowship hall siding
10. St. Croix Valley Sexual Assault Response Team, $1,500, lab tests for victims of sexual assault
11. Positive Alternatives, $1,000, new beds and mattresses for Amery group home
12. River Valley Hockey Association, $500, equipment, rink maintenance and ice rental
13. Interfaith Caregivers of Burnett County, $1,500, wheelchair ramps and home repair program
14. Feed My Neighbor Community Food Pantry, $1,500, Centuria, Milltown, Balsam Lake area food pantry
15. St. Croix Falls School District, Golf Program, $500, golf simulator

“We are proud to support these vital organizations that improve our local quality of life according to our co-op values,” said Polk-Burnett General Manager Steve Stroshane. “We’re grateful to our members for their participation in Operation Round Up; your generosity makes a significant impact to many programs and families in our area.”

Operation Round Up grants are donated by members of Polk-Burnett who round their monthly electric bill up to the next even dollar amount. Operation Round Up grant recipients are selected quarterly by a co-op member board of directors.

Polk-Burnett Operation Round Up awarded $1,500 to Feed My Neighbor Community Food Pantry, which is enough to stock the pantry for two weeks. The food pantry is open in Centuria for all residents of Polk County. In the past six months, volunteers have provided 120,500 pounds of food to 2,664 households.
